With the Fourth of July holiday coming up, you’re probably thinking of how you are planning to celebrate. Whether it’s a trip to the beach, a barbecue with friends, or camping with your family, the Fourth of July is always a momentous holiday where friends and family join together to celebrate the birth of our nation.

Call (805) 470-1628 to speak with one of our experienced Ventura car accident attorneys or contact us online to schedule your free consultation today.

At Schurmer Reese Davies, we’d like to wish you a happy, festive 4th of July holiday—but with an added reminder to stay safe and not get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking.

Tragically, families across our nation lose loved ones in crashes where alcohol is involved on 4th of July, and we hope you’ll help us in encouraging others to make the choice not to get behind the wheel if they’ve had too much to drink.

4th of July Death Statistics

With the festivities unfortunately comes increased DUI arrests, car accidents, and fatalities. Compared to other holidays, the Fourth of July ranks as the deadliest holiday in terms of DUI fatalities.

That means that someone is more likely to lose their life on the 4th of July than on Christmas, New Year’s, Labor Day, or Memorial Day. In 2017, 237 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes on the Fourth of July, accounting for 39% of the traffic deaths during that holiday period.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the month of July, in general, is the deadliest month for DUIs—and experts say the Fourth of July holiday is largely to blame.

With increased group gatherings, family barbecues, fireworks displays, and other holiday-related festivities, alcohol consumption is increased and, therefore, so are DUI-related incidents.

So if you are planning to enjoy some adult beverages this coming Fourth of July holiday, the attorneys and staff at Schurmer Reese Davies encourage you to get a safe ride home with a designated driver.

Call Uber or Lyft, or stay the night at your friend or relative’s home instead of driving home drunk. Help to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others, by making the choice to avoid drunk driving.

If you or a loved one have been injured in a car accident in Oxnard or the surrounding area, we can help. Call Schurmer Reese Davies at (805) 470-1628 or contact us online now.
